The Black and Gold Rib Buzzer

Black and Gold Rib Buzzer Fly Tying Materials

The following tying instructions are identical for the Black and Gold Ribbed buzzer and the silver ribbed buzzers except for the Black and Gold buzzer which uses some gold craft paint to give a glitter effect. Just miss this step for the silver ribbed buzzers.

Step 6

Wind the wire up the hookshank to create a second rib. Try to keep the wire so that it touches the edge of the tinsel rib. Just stopping short of the eye, secure with thread and remove waste wire by rocking it side to side.

Step 7

Catch in a length of mylar tinsel or pearl film and build a thorax by running the thread back and forth. The mylar tinsel should be at the rear of the thorax. Return the thread to the eye once the thorax is built and pull the mylar tinsel forward. Secure with thread and trim waste mylar. Cover the mylar end with thread, whip finish and trim waste thread.

Step 9

Add a "blob" of t-shirt paint to each side of the thorax. (I tend to add a "blob" of the T-shirt paint to a cocktail stick and then apply it to the thorax by lightly tapping it).

Step 10

Once the T-shirt paint is dry, apply a coat of varnish and leave to dry.

Step 11

Add some gold craft metallic marker (Berol Egyptian Gold Metallic Marker) to the T-shirt paint wing bud and allow to partly dry.

Step 8

Before the gold paint is fully dry, add a coat of varnish to the thorax, this will add gold sparkle to anywhere the varnish is stroked. Leave to dry. Add three coats of varnish to the body section and thorax, then a further 3 coats to the thorax.
