Sakasa Kebari White Shrimp Fly Tying Materials

Step 1

Catch the thread onto the hookshank a litle way from the eye, leaving enough space to tie in and wind the hackle back.

Step 2

Take an English Partridge hackle and strip the waste fluff and unwanted fibres from the stem. (Any hackle and colour can be used, English partridge is just my preference).

Take your hackle pliers or a pair of tweezers and hold the end of the hackle where the stem is narrowist and pull the fibres back with your thumb and forefinger so they pull horizontal to the stem, leaving the tip ready for tying in.

Step 4

Catch in the hackle just below where the tip is. Make sure the tip is positioned above the hook eye and the hackle is tied in concave and fibres facing outwards from the eye.

Step 5

Wind the hackle around the hookshank, stroking forward any wayward fibres with your fingers. For the second wind, make sure this is made behind the first wind and so on until all fibres are wound on. Secure the stem with thread and trim any waste.

Step 6

Wind the thread down the hookshank and catch in a bunch of English Partridge hackle fibres. Finish with the thread positioned just in front of the reverse hackle we did earlier.
